Here is what we do instead. We run the camera. We turn the screen toward you while it is in the line, so you are looking at the same picture we are. Then we write down what we found and hand it to you. If it needs a cleaning, we say cleaning. If it needs a spot repair, we say spot repair. If it needs replacing, we show you exactly where and why. And if it is fine, we say it is fine and we leave.
The inspection costs you nothing because we are confident that when you can see what we see, you will make a good decision. Sometimes that decision is us. Sometimes it is not. Either way you will know what is in your pipe, which is more than most people ever get.
A sewer camera shows you the inside of your own line, joint by joint, from the house to the street. In older homes around Edmonds, Shoreline, Lynnwood and north Seattle the lateral is often clay or early cast iron, laid in sections, and every joint is a place roots can find. Douglas fir, big leaf maple and cedar roots go looking for water, and a hairline crack in a sewer pipe is water.

Most sewer lines that get quoted for full replacement are not in the fourth group. You cannot know which group yours is in from a description over the phone, and neither can anyone else.
A camera was in the line or it was not. If it was, you should have seen the screen, and you should have a recording or a written account of what was found and where. "Trust me, it is bad down there" is not a diagnosis.
Sewer problems are usually at a joint, a root intrusion or a belly at one point in the run. A quote that replaces the entire line without saying which part failed and why is asking you to pay for the parts that were fine.
A real sewer problem that has been developing for years does not become an emergency in the time it takes to get a second opinion. Pressure to sign in the driveway is a sales technique, not a plumbing fact.
